Driving in New Zealand
New Zealand boasts some of the most stunning scenery in the world and we want you to enjoy it all in the safest manner possible. That’s why, if you are coming off a long haul flight, we recommend you stay in a local hotel overnight before picking up your motorhome. This way you can unwind and relax, then start your motorhome adventure feeling fresh and ready for anything the next day.
When driving in New Zealand you need to be aware of some of the key road rules, for example:
- We drive on the left side of the road
- We have a unique give way rule at intersections
- New Zealand has many hilly, narrow or winding roads. This means your journey may take you longer than expected, so you’ll need to plan for this
Plus many more. We will provide you with information about how to drive safely in New Zealand when you collect your motorhome. However, it always pays to be prepared, so please take the time to learn more by visiting http://www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/roadcode/index.html for more information.
Finally, please remember to take breaks when driving. We know there is a lot to see, but if you feel tired pull over and have a short sleep for 40 minutes.
